Practice Post

As soon as possible, do a first practice post-no, this doesn't count toward the "big four" posts per book-we're just doing a test to make sure you can post successfully. Tell me a little about yourself-your interests, extracurricular activities, of course, your favorite book of all time, and anything else you'd like to share.

  1. Hello, my name is Shelby Howell! I am the co-captain of the high school robotics team, Bedford Express. In addition to being co-captain, I am coaching one team of K-3rd graders through their robotics experience this fall. I am a percussionist in the symphonic band, and I play trombone in the marching band. My family will be hosting an exchange student from Germany next year. I can't say I really have a favorite book, I like a lot of books. Some of my favorites are Paper Towns by John Green, Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks, and Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.

  2. Hi, my name is Heli Patel. I enjoy playing tennis, and my sophomore year was my first year on the girls varsity tennis team. I am eagerly looking forward to my next two years of high school tennis. One thing I don't enjoy doing is reading, but I remember liking And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and any other mystery/thriller books I've read.

    1. Heli, I also love Agatha Christie and loved being shocked at the end of that one. We'll have to discuss mysteries next year. I wonder if you'd like the Alexander McCall Smith #1 Ladies Detective Agency series that takes place in Africa--love that one!

    1. Hi Sarah,
I am a bit obsessed with dystopian novels as well. Besides Divergent & Hunger Games, I really love 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale, which is a feminist dystopian novel that is pretty amazing. I just finished The Maze Runner--could not put it down. I'll have to check out Rick Yancy--thanks!

    1. Hi Matthew,
You'll have to let me know what you think of The Things They Carried--it tells the stories of soldiers in the Vietnam War but also seems to comment on the nature of storytelling and war as well. Happy Summer!

  10. Hi, my name is Breana Finch. I love to play softball, spending time with friends and family, and just being outdoors. My new favorite book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I've only read 2 books of his and I just LOVE his writing style! I'm pretty much open to any type of genres, but my favorite has to be mysteries - I love it when an author can be very detailed and is able to make the book suspenseful. I'm looking forward to being in your class next school year!

  11. Hello, my name is Steven Waganfeald. I am a Varsity swimmer and hope to be a captain in my senior year. If you asked me what my favorite book was I couldn't possibly pick one. I'll read just about anything, but a book with strong character development is always the best. Over the summer I swim and play video games. Poetry has recently become extremely interesting to me and I've begun to write some, along with a few ideas for novels. I am excited to get started in this class!

  12. Hello, my name is Gabe Elarton. The sport I love is wrestling, although football is in for a close second. I love working hard and being physical which is vital in both sports. The book that has always caught my attention and taught a lot about life is, Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy. Tony Dungy coach the Indianapolis Colts for a Super Bowl win in 2006. To sum everything up, I had surgery on my shoulder in July, so summer for me has been very calm! I am eager for this upcoming year!

  14. Hi, I'm Abby Coulter. One thing about me is that I love Music. I have been playing the piano for a very long time and it is the one thing that I can always fall back on. I also love summer and my favorite thing to do is to go camping with my friends. Some other random things about me are that I love cats and watching football. I would have to say that one of the greatest books I have read would be The Book Thief. I love reading so I am always up for a good book to read.

  16. Hello! My name is Shannon Maag, though I've been known to be called a variety of things thanks to my last name (most recently "Maagpie"). I'm a Les Mis junkie with a passion for creative writing (I've written two novels, although they were written and sixth grade and... um..) and digital art. My favourite punctuation mark is the poor, misunderstood semicolon (as well as parentheses-- or brackets in general-- , which I don't think anyone would have ever guessed). As for my best-loved book, which is a question I always struggle to answer, I'm going to go with Les Mis simply in that I enjoyed it and it's a current interest of mine. The Book Thief and Good Omens are definitely close behind.
On an end note, I'm that weirdo who hauls a 1940s typewriter to social gatherings in the hopes of deafening everyone by my pounding at the keys; it's definitely an attention grabber.

  17. Hi I am Dale Davis and I love to play hockey just as much as I love to read. My favorite all time book series is Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. They are also my favorite movies of all time. I love how action packed the movie is and how much detail goes into the movies.

  18. Hi! I'm Jocelyn Groll (although I go by Josie) and I think I spend more time reading than anything else... Is that a good thing? I'm also very involved in music and theatre. I've been in choir for two years and play clarinet in the Symphonic Band. I've played piano since I was seven, and started doing musicals when I was 8. I'm currently in Jekyll and Hyde, and music directing Flat Stanley Junior, which I am super excited about. My favorite books (because I can't pick just one) are Distant Waves, all 9 Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books, all of the Harry Potters except The Order of the Phoenix (Harry was just too whiny for me in that one), and I'm sure I have like 3 more, but that's all I can think of right now. On that note, I have a HUGE obsession with Harry Potter, and Greek and Roman mythology, and I'm really looking forward for this year!

  19. Hi, my name is Abigail Cloum. Most Abigail's go by "Abby" but I'm one of the few who actually prefer "Abigail". I love to sing and dance. I am involved with the choirs at our school but also take vocal lessons on the side. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends, listening to music and reading. For extracurricular activities, I am on the Cross Country team and will be starting back up on the Track team this year. I also participate in ballet and jazz classes at Vibe. If I had the choice between reading or watching tv, my obvious answer would be to read. I am a huge Hunger Games fanatic, just like the rest of America, but I mainly enjoy reading mystery novels or an informational book like the one I just read. It was called, "Without Conscience". It was a novel written to describe the mindset and characteristics of the modern day psychopath and it is now my favorite book. As for writing, I really enjoy creative writing and I think I have the creative writing course as one of my electives this year so I am excited to see what types of writing and reading we"ll be doing this year!
